Kharkov Railroad Station.

I am a single male from the USA and I have a couple of questions as to the cities that I am interested; Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa and Kherson.

1)How safe is it to travel solo in Ukraine in these cities?

2) Is it safe to Rent a Car and drive solo between these cities?

Bill,
Crime in Ukraine is relatively low as for western standards. If you follow your common sense and some "street wisdom rules " , you are quite safe.

If you do not speak Russian or Ukrainian, the biggest problem you will have is the language barrier. There are no too many people in Ukraine who speak English.

The same story about renting a car. Communication can be a problem. Most likely a car rental services in Ukraine have English speaking people. But there are still two more problems you might be facing in Ukraine.

1. 99,999% of our policemen, certainly do not speak English.
2. There are no English traffic signs both cities and outside the cities.
It might be not that bad idea to have some English speaking helper during your first trip to Ukraine.

Regards, Dina.
