Short trip to Kiev from the U.S.

Trip to Kiev. Folk Museum
To see Kiev is to really enjoy not being stressed.
I visited Kiev for the first time last Christmas (Ukraine 2011).
Going through customs was easy (no one asked me anything) and if you have questions or feel lost, there are very nice people there to help.
They have local cabs and independent drivers who speak English. From airport to city is about $30.00.
I stayed at an apartment (1 room) for about $64.00 a day. Not classy, but fills the needs of the night.
Internet is by Ethernet cord (not wireless) in some places. Many restaurants have English translations on their menus and prices for food are very very reasonable.
I have a tendency of over tipping which surprises many of the waiters/waitresses. They do not linger around your table with small chit chat, but they were around when I wanted something.
Currency exchange places are very abundant and the rates did not vary from different locations.
Shopping was somewhat of an issue only because of language barriers which one might expect, but it can still be done efficiently enough. People on the street seem to mind their own business and made conversations with me only after I initiated. Once they start talking, one forgets about no one being friendly.
I hope this gives some insight as to current day expectations when going to Kiev. My next trip there will be in the summer for about 30 days to see more of what Ukraine has to offer.
