I am in America and have 2 Ukraine college students here with me for the summer and would like to surprise them with some home cooked Ukrainian food. I need a recipe or something to go by, any ideas or suggestions?

There are a lot of choices of traditional Ukrainian food available. Here are only a few of them.
Ukrainian Borsh. Recipe of Ukrainian borsh can be found
here Stuffed duck. Here is a video where they cook traditional duck stuffed with apples. It is VERY TASTY. And easy to do.
Stuffed duck Vareniky. Recipe is
here.

Here are a few of my favorite quite traditional for Ukrainian varenyky filling.
1. Mashed potatoes. Add fried in sunflower oil onion on the top of Varenyky when they are done. Some people like to put fried onion inside, but I prefer on the top. This way you can taste each flavor better, but at the same time they have good combination of flavors.
2.Fresh cherries with a little bit of sugar, but once again, it is better to put sugar on the top. This way cherries won't loose too much juice. It quite traditional to put some sour cream on the top.
3. Ukrainian style of cottage cheese + egg yolk + a little bit of sugar. Plus sour cream on the top. The closest American type of cottage cheese is dry curd at Mejer’s or Marten’s.
4. Ground beef + fried onion. It is not my favorite, but quite traditional for Ukraine.
Enjoy together with your Ukrainian friends!
We will be glad to hear from you about your Ukrainian Party.
