Ukrainian stamps.
The first Ukrainian stamps were issued in 1918 when independent Ukrainian People's republic was proclaimed. During the time of its existence (1917-1920) five postage stamps were issued. Today two of them are recognized as some of the rarest stamps in the world.
After Ukraine regained its independence the first Ukrainian postal stamp was released on March 1, 1992. Recent stamp issues of the Ukrainian State not only meet the needs of the post service, but they have a lot to offer for the stamp collectors. Postal stamps became collector's items since the time of their first introduction when the Penny Black - the first postal stamp in the world was issued in London in 1840. Evolution of the postal stamps in Ukraine follows those turbulent changes of the State history which happen to Ukraine during all period of its existence. There are numerous stamps issued by the various Ukrainian governments, trident overprints which were in circulations when the Ukrainian history made its regular turn to another step, and even dynamics of the State monetary system can be watched while you research Ukrainian postal stamps.
